A woman in Tennessee has been arrested for ‘poking’ someone on Facebook, who had taken out an order of protection against her.
Shannon Jackson used the Facebook ‘poke’ feature which sends a quick note to another person to grab his/her attention. The order of protection restricted “telephoning, contacting or otherwise communicating with the petitioner”.
Jackson was arrested and taken to the Summer County jail. She will appear in court on October 28. If convicted, she can face up to one year in prison and a $2,500 fine.
Many Facebook users have been arrested on various charges recently. However, it is not known if Jackson is the first person to be arrested for ‘poking’.
Earlier on September 18, a freshman studying at So. John’s University, New York was arrested after he posted threatening messages on Face book. He has posted that he would kill people with a “Virginia Tech attack”.
Last week, a 26-year old man was arrested after logging on to face book on a computer he accessed while burgling a house. Police authorities traced him and recovered stolen cash and jewelry.
