Windows Mobile 6.5 Phones Available Now

ImageThe first phones running on Windows Mobile 6.5 will become available from today. Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.5 is an updated version of its popular operating system for smartphones.

The first three phones based on Windows Mobile 6.5 are HTC Imagio, HTC Pure and HTC Tilt 2. Microsoft said that phones running Windows Mobile 6.1 can be upgraded to the 6.5.

Microsoft claims that Windows Mobile 6.5 comes with a number of improvements. Additionally, it also allows users to access many new online services such as Windows Marketplace for Mobile and My Phone.

There will be about 200 applications for download on Windows Marketplace for Mobile. More applications will be added later. These applications range from business software to games.

My Phone is a new backup service that allows users to synchronize directly with a computer to restore lost data if the phone is lost or stolen. The service also allows users to track their lost phone with the help of GPS. My Phone will be available initially only in the US.

Using the My Phone service, users can remotely lock the phone and then add a “please return to” message to the screen. If this fails in convincing the finder to return it back, the phone will vibrate annoyingly and then delete all the data.

Windows Mobile 6.5 has quick access to Windows Live, Bing and Mobile Office Communicator. Users can also access Microsoft Online Services i.e. Exchange and SharePoint.

More information on Windows Mobile 6.5 will be available shortly.
