What Makes Computers Sell?

Today’s computer hardware provides us ample information about the computers of tomorrow. They define the trends and chalk out the path by which computer technology will progress.

For instance, microprocessors are always based on older technologies but with enhancements and improvements. And they lay the foundation for the next generation of processors.

Today, computers sell mainly because of speed. Speed was not something processor manufacturers considered sometime back as they concentrated on other factors. However, now speed is a major criterion again.

Newer computers also support more RAM. Today, 4GB is the standard amount of memory. In the coming few years, we can expect more. Memory chips have become very cheap and at the same time also have become more efficient.

Today, DDR2 is the most popular type of memory. DDR3 is already out and within a next few years will completely phase out DDR2. DDR3 is much faster and at the same time also cheaper. In the future we can expect memory chips with very high capacities.

Microprocessors available today have multiple cores. Each core acts as a separate processor and so the processor as a whole offers a much higher computing power. Dual-core and quad-core processors are now common place and in the future processors with more number of cores will be available.

Due to tremendous improvements in computing powers, software have also become more powerful. They can now do things which were considered impossible before.

Efficiency is also one of the factors on which manufacturers are putting their concentration. The computers of the future will not only be powerful but also more energy efficient.

As computer technology progresses, everything in our homes will be computerized. This has already begun and it will only be time before it becomes a complete reality.
