If your computer is running a bit slow, the best way to improve its performance is to add more RAM. Installing RAM is not a big deal. However, it are not so sure about it, it is best to take the help of someone who knows better or a professional computer technician.

Here are instructions on finding out how much memory your computer has and what type of RAM you should be purchasing:

If you are using a Mac, find the Applications folder, double click “Utilities” folder and then double-click on “Apple System Profiler”. If you are using an older Mac like Mac OS 9 or older, select “Apple System Profiler” which is usually found in the Apple menu.

2) Check your motherboard or the company website to determine the number of RAM slots present on your motherboard. If a manual came with your motherboard, you can also refer to it. Also check the type of RAM and the maximum speed your motherboard can support. E.g. PC2100 DDR 133 MHz RAM.

3) Compare the memory currently installed with the maximum. You have two choices–add new memory sticks to empty slots or remove lower-capacity RAM and add a higher-capacity stick.
