Twitter hacked by Iranian hackers!

According to a news article on Information Week, popular social networking web site Twitter was pushed offline on Friday by hackers from Iran.

About the outage a Twitter agent wrote, "We are working to recover from an unplanned downtime and will update more as we learn the cause of this outage."

It seems that the hackers managed to hack the web site’s Domain Name Service i.e. DNS records which caused the web site to go offline.

Twitter’s DNS records were temporarily compromised but have now been fixed. Twitter is currently looking into the underlying cause and will soon post an update on the issue.

The hackers defaced Twitter’s home page, as users attempting to reach the service in the early hours Friday were greeted with a message that stated the sabotage was perpetrated by a group that called itself the Iranian Cyber Army.

The message stated, "This site has been hacked by the Iranian Cyber Army."

Nothing much is known about the Iranian Cyber Army and it might be possible that this incident is in fact the work of some pranksters, rather than a cadre of cyber criminals with links to Iran’s anti-West political authorities.

It is also not immediately clear if intelligence officials in the US are investigating the breach. Hacking into computers is a serious crime which carries severe penalties.

This comes just a day after the Wall Street Journal reported that Middle Eastern terrorists had managed to breach and access live video feeds from the unmanned Predator attack drones.

It seems that there is no connection between these two incidents.

In the past, twitter has suffered from many attacks. However, down times at most lasted a few hours and Twitter was back as usual.
