Do you want to get a free copy of Windows 7? Throw a party!
Microsoft is encouraging people to throw house parties in return for a free copy of its latest operating system. Selected persons will get a free signature edition of Windows 7 Ultimate.
Microsoft will sift through the millions likely to be breaking out the party hats and HD webcams to choose those who will be given the free copy of Windows 7.
Microsoft says, “Apply online to host a Launch Party. Choose a day from October 22-29 and if you’re selected, you’ll not only receive a special Signature Edition of Windows 7 Ultimate but your very own Windows 7 Party Pack.”
In addition, every host also has a chance of winning a personal computer worth USD 750. Winners will notified and their prizes delivered to them after October 30.
Windows 7 has received a better response when compared with Windows Vista. Windows Vista was an overall disappointment with the users. However, Microsoft has succeeded in fixing all the shortcomings in its new release.
However, not everyone is happy with the way Microsoft is trying to push its new OS. Dave Methwin, in his article “Is Windows 7 Software, Or Tupperware?” says, “Is Windows 7 a product that lends itself to a party? Product-oriented parties have generally been the territory of plastic kitchenware, baby gear, and sexy underwear. I like Windows 7, but this is a different tech world than the one where users camped out all night to be the first to buy Windows 95. Still, it’s hard to complain about an excuse to have a party for nerdy friends, with party favors provided by Microsoft.” Similar opinions abound on various blogs around the blogosphere.
Microsoft is not the first company to ask fans to throw launch-parties. Mozilla, the company behind the open browser–Firefox, asked fans to throw launch-parties and succeeded in setting a Guinness World Record for the number of downloads. Firefox claimed 8 million downloads within 24 hours of the launch. Hopefully, Microsoft will also see similar results.
