Startup Snatches the "Mighty Mouse" from Apple

A small start-up has defeated Apple in the a battle over the “Mighty Mouse” trademark.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office granted Man & Machine, a computer peripheral startup the trademark for “Mighty Mouse”, the name of the company’s waterproof mouse.

Apple sells a mouse called the Mighty Mouse–a white colored mouse with a roller ball in the upper-middle. Since the trademark for the Mighty Mouse has been awarded to the new company, Apple will have to search for something else for its next mouse.

There are rumors that Apple will be shipping a new multitouch mouse with its upgraded iMacs very soon.

Man & Machine’s victory over Apple may be a glimmer of hope for Daniel Kokin who is fighting Apple over the “Pod” trademark. Kokin plans to sell a video projector called “Video Pod” and Apple was not all happy about the use of “Pod”. USPTO has denied Apple’s motion for summary judgment which means both parties have to settle the issue in court.

Hopefully, Apple may rename its new mouse iMouse. Apple’s iPhone makes touchscreen technology mainstream. Hopefully, Apple’s ‘iMouse’ will make multitouch mice mainstream.
