Many in the industry consider Spotify as a rival to Apple’s iTunes store.
Currently, Apple dominates the digital music market. Many speculated that Apple wouldn’t approve of Spotify’s app as it is a direct rival to Apple’s own flagship service.
Many in the music industry believe that Spotify is a viable alternative to Apple’s iTunes Service. They believe that Spotify represents a credible business model for the music industry which has found it difficult to adapt itself to the online world.
It is believed that one of the main reasons behind Spotify’s entry into the mobile market is that users pay subscriptions charges of its service which can mean lots of additional income.
Currently, most users who use Spotify use the free streaming service. Only 1 in every 50 users currently pays a subscription.
Spotify was launched in 2008 and now has more than 2 million users the United Kingdom alone. Additionally, more than six million users in Europe use Spotify.
