SmartFTP–Software Review
SmartFTP is an FTP client that allows you to upload files to your server/hosting account. It comes with an explorer like interface and supports drag and drop. You can use the software to make simultaneous connections to different servers.
SmartFTP caches the remote directory information for future viewing and supports a global history. It is also possible to resume broken transfers, connect using proxy and perform recursive download, uploads and deletes using SmartFTP.
To some users, SmartFTP’s interface may take sometime to get used to. However, the toolbars and windowpanes can be customized to suit your needs. This makes the use a bit easier.
SmartFTP supports drag and drop like most other FTP clients. However, this is not its major plus point. The real advantage lies in its option menus, which allow you to CHMOD remote files, perform background file transfers, manage multiple FTP connections, passive mode transfers, site-to-site transfers (i.e. FXP) and use proxy servers and SSL. It is also possible to schedule downloads or uploads to more than one server.
To conclude, SmartFTP may be a bit “tough” for beginners. But with a little effort, you will be FTPing in no time. It is natural for intermediates and up.
