Applications of problem solving programs:
Speech Technology : The goal of speech technology is to enable people and computer systems to communicate in spoken languages such as Sanskrit, Telugu, Hindi, Urdu English, and so on. This calls for the formulation and investigation of computationally effective mechanisms and/or formalisms for man-machine communication through speech.
To elaborate,
Firstly, the subject area deals with naturally occurring human languages.
Secondly, it is concerned with the use of these languages for communication between a person and a computer.
Thirdly, it is not concerned with the study of spoken language in an abstract way, but with devising mechanisms and/or formalisms for performing such communication that are computationally effective, i.e., that can be turned into a computer programs that perform or simulate or model or paradigm the communication. It is this characteristic that sets speech technology a sub are of not much AI as artificial life (AL).
For a spoken sentence to be processed by a human being or a machine it should be thoroughly understood or it has to be analyzed and/or elaborated to a possible extent.
Recent advances in speech technology have raised expectations about empirical spoken language interfaces. Such interfaces give users a flexible way to communicate with the computer, and flow them to keep their hands and eyes on the task at hand – repairing equipment, providing telephone assistance, piloting an airplane, driving a car, operating heavy equipment, and so on.
