In the third quarter, PC sales grew by 2 per cent. The first and quarters saw declines of 6.8 per cent and 2.4 per cent respectively. Expectations were met in all the regions with the exception of Japan. PCs account for the majority of computer sales currently. Netbooks are also very popular and make a substantial contribution to increased shipments.

All major PC makers have reported increased sales in the third quarter. However, Dell’s sales have decreased by as much as 8 per cent.

Consumers are buying PCs on a large scale, however, they are looking for bargain prices. Due to this, PCs makers who have low-prices offerings are benefiting. Dell chose to stick to its earlier prices which has resulted in reduced sales.

PC sales are expected to get a boost once Windows 7 is released. Individuals and business users will have to buy new computers or upgrade their hardware to make the switch to Windows 7 from Windows Xp. This will result in a surge in PC and hardware sales.

Overall, the prospects for the future market growth are very good.
