How to Find the Mac Number of Your ASUS Eee PC

Asus Eee PC is a subnotebook/netbook computer line from ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated, and a part of the Asus Eee product family. Eee PC netbooks have both a wired and wireless Ethernet connection.

Ethernet uses hardware Media Access Control, or MAC, addresses to individualize every network card. MAC addresses are 48 bits in length, with the first 24 bits assigned to the manufacturer of the card, and the second 24 bits assigned by the manufacturer so that every Ethernet-based card has a globally unique MAC address.

If you want to find the MAC address of your EEE PC, here are instructions:

1) Click the network icon in the lower-right corner of the screen by the clock.

2) Click “Open network and sharing center.”

3) Click “Change adapter settings.”

4) Right-click the adapter for which you want to find the MAC address. For example, right-click “Local Area Connection.”

5) Click “Details” to view the MAC address. The MAC address is listed in the “Physical Address” field.

John von Neumann

Hungarian-born, German – US mathematician and pioneer in computing. He was a famous mathematician at the Institute for Advance Study at Princeton University, is credited with developing the modern concept of the stored program.

He was a professor from 1931, making contributions to quantum physics, logic, and meteorology. He also helped develop the US hydrogen bomb after World War II. His book on game theory, published in 1944, subsequently had a significant impact on economy theory.

In 1946 he proposed some of the central concepts of later computer development, particularly the advantages of the binary system for computer operation and the ‘stored program’, in which the computer retains in its memory the instruction for its operation.
A major problem with ENIAC was that every time its operators wanted to do a new series of computations, they had to rewrite it and reset switches in process that often took several hours.

It was Neumann who found solution to this problem: the stored program. With a stored program, the instructions for the computer are coded as numbers and stored inside the machine. The machines operating instructions are placed, or stored, in the same memory as the data to be processed, and they are written in the same binary notation.
The basic operations that the machine can perform are built into its circuitry; each operation is given a number; and the stored program can call for any operation by its number.

Stored programs thus give computers great flexibility. Both the program and the data could be stored in the computer’s memory. In such a stored-program computer, operators would feed in a new set of instructions when they wanted the computer execute a new program. Thus, they would not have to rewrite the machine. With this stored-program concept, the idea of software was born.

Von Neumann also recognized how important it was for computers to use binary notation, since the binary system corresponded to the “on”or “off” nature of electronic components. Since EDVAC, all computers have been designed to use binary notation.
The first stored-program computer, called EDSAC (Electronic Delay Storage Automatic calculator), was completed in England, in 1949. Von Neumann’s machine, EDVAC (Electronic Discrete Variable Automatic Computer), was started in 1946 and completed in the United States in 1950. With these devices, the stage was set for the computer revolution and the explosive growth of the commercial computer industry.

  1. Read the documentation that came along with your motherboard first. Because the actual switch for disabling the onboard video could be a physical jumper OR a software BIOS setting, be sure you know the correct jumper (often labeled on the PCB, or how to change settings in your systems’ BIOS.
  2. Install any devices and drivers for the other video card device, connecting any power molex cables to the power supply of your computer, and the most recent drivers downloaded from the manufacturer’s website of your card.
  3. Plug in the monitor to the port located on the motherboard first, otherwise you may not get a picture at all.
  4. According to your documentation, find out if you need to open (or close) a jumper on the motherboard to disable the video, or if it is a BIOS Setting.
  5. Change the jumper (opening or closing it as needed) on the mainboard while the system is powered off and unplugged from the wall, or go into BIOS and change the Primary Video toto PCI/AGP based on the card.
  6. Often there is also a setting in BIOS on newer boards that allows the user to set either a PCI card or AGP card as the primary video device. Make sure this is set to your video card.
  7. Save Settings and Exit BIOS, if you had to change settings here.
  8. Power off the system entirely, unplugging it from the wall. Change your Monitor cable from the motherboard connector to the primary Display out on the back of the video card. This should be designated with a 0 or 1 in the event the card has dual-display capability.
  9. Turn on your system. If you receive a video signal, congratulations, you’re done!
  10. If you do not receive a video signal, listen carefully for the normal beep that indicates a successful POST. (Power On Self Test). If there is one beep, turn the system off and plug the cable back into the motherboard display port. If you now receive a video signal, check your BIOS Settings or Jumper settings once again. If you still have difficulties, or you do not receive any signal on either port, then read your documentation on how to reset BIOS or change the jumper back to its original position.

1. Get it out of the water as soon as possible. The plastic covers on cell phones are fairly tight, but water can enter the phone in a short period of time, perhaps only 20 seconds or less. So grab your phone quickly! If you can’t get to it in time, your best bet is to remove the battery while it is still under water. Water helps dissipate heat from shorts that can damage the phone, so most damage occurs when the inside of the phone is merely wet and there is a power source. This can go both ways. Being under water is more likely to short the battery to even more sensitive contacts, so be careful.

2. Don’t panic. Your phone will probably not be too damaged if you right away take it out of the water. While it’s in the water, immediately take it out.

3. Remove the battery. This is one of the most important steps. Don’t take time to think about it; electricity and water do not mix. Cutting power to your phone is a crucial first step in saving it. Many circuits inside the phone will survive immersion in water provided they are not attached to a power source when wet.

4. If you have a sim card ,remove your SIM card. Some or all of your valuable contacts (along with other data) could be stored on your SIM. To some people this could be more worth saving than the phone itself. SIM cards survive water damage well, but some of the following steps are unnecessary i.e. don’t heat it. Just pat it dry and leave it aside until you need to connect your phone to your cellular network.

5. Dry your phone. Obviously you need to remove as much of the water as soon as possible, so you can save it from getting into the phone. Shake it out without dropping it, then use a towel or paper towel (ideally trying not to clog the wet paper in the gaps and grooves of the phone) to gently remove as much of the remaining water as possible. Dry the excess moisture by hand.

6. Remove any covers and external connectors to open up as many gaps, slots, and crevices in the phone as possible.

7. Use a vacuum cleaner if possible Let the phone sit on absorbent towels, napkin, or other paper. It is thought that letting a cellphone sit in rice will absorb moisture including under the screen. Remember that the goal is to evacuate all the moisture and humidity, not to trap it or add even more. Check the absorbent material every hour for 4 to 6 hours. If moisture is evident, repeat the vacuuming step and desiccant steps.

8. Test your phone. After you have waited a day or so, make sure everything is clean and dry looking and re-attach the battery to the phone and see if it works. If your phone does not work, try plugging it into its charger without the battery, if this works, you need a new battery. If not, try taking your cell phone to an authorized dealer. Sometimes they can fix it. Don’t try to hide the fact that it has been wet. There are internal indicators that prove moisture.

Acer Launches Three New Smartphones in India

Acer has launched three new smartphone models in India. These three new touchscreen phones virtually encompass all price ranges. The phones start at Rs. 12,000 and range up to Rs. 35,000. The phones are designated beTouch e101, beTouch e200 and neoTouch. All of the three, the neoTouch is in the top of the segment.

beTouch e101:

The beTouch e101 is definitely well priced because at Rs. 12,000 it comes with a lot of decent features. It comes with a 3.2 inch resistive touchscreen and runs on the latest version of Windows Mobile i.e. 6.5. To put it straight, the beTouch e101 promises to provide the user with the ultimate Windows Mobile experience. Additionally, the smartphone comes with 256 MB of RAM and 512 MB of internal ROM. Apart from these, it also boasts a basic 2 megapixel camera. On the minus side though, the camera is very basic and lacks autofocus, something we can live with taking the price into consideration.

beTouch e200:
