Opera has lived up to its tradition with its latest release–Opera 10…
Opera is definitely one of the best browsers. In some ways, Opera is better than even Firefox and Internet explorer. Some of the cool features such as speed dial, trash can and session management that we find in other browsers were first implemented by Opera.
Opera has lived up to its tradition with its latest release–Opera 10. Not only does the latest version come with a refreshingly cool user interface, it also comes with a bunch of cool features.
Opera is very light on system resources.
Here are some of the feature features in Opera 10:
– Automatic upgrades: You don’t have to manually download the installer and upgrade browser. Opera can be upgraded right from the browser interface. The download notification button shows if updates are available and displays upgrade progress automatically.
– Crash logging system: If the browser crashes for some reason, the crash logging system will collect information about it. It also aggregates user feedback. This feature will help Opera to improve its software by fixing bugs.
– Spell checker: The spell checker that comes with Opera supports over 51 languages. However, it can be disabled if you don’t need it.
– New rendering engine: Opera 10 comes with a new rendering engine known as Presto 2.2. This engine comes with many enhancements such as faster rendering and specifications compliance.
– Opera Turbo: This feature speeds up browsing on slower connections. It reduces bandwidth consumption by compressing data and images.
– Visual tabs: These provide a peek view of the content on the page so that the user will know which page is open in which tab.
In addition to the new features, Opera 10 also comes with enhanced older features. The Dragonfly developer tools and the mail client have been improved. Overall, the latest version is more compliant with web standards.
CSS — Better support for transparency and color crossfading.
HTML — Support for HTML 5.
SVG — Improved support for scalable vector graphics i.e. SVG format.
Fonts — Improved support for True Type and Open Type fonts.
Despite all these features, the developers have managed to keep Opera very small. Opera is available for both Windows and Linux.
