With the announcement of the Nokia 5230 smartphone, the cell-phone leader has brought touchscreen smartphones to the masses.
The smartphone features a 3.2 inch touch-screen and runs Symbian. When compared with other smartphones in the market such as the iPhone, the 5230 is underpowered. However, it packs many essential features that keep the user connect on the go.
Using the Nokia 5230, users can send emails and surf the Internet. The phone also comes with a GPS chipset that is compatible with Nokia maps. On the minus side, there is no Wi-Fi.
Software and other content for the phone can be downloaded by accessing Nokia’s Ovi store. By default, the 5230 comes with a document viewer that allows the user to read Word, Excel and Powerpoint files.
The Nokia 5230 can play various audio and video files and also comes with an FM radio. It also has a 2 megapixel camera that can be used to take pictures and record video. Onboard, the phone has 70 MB of storage. This can be expanded to 16 GB using microSD. The phone also comes with software to edit pictures.
The Nokia 5230 will be available for sale on the fourth quarter this year. The smartphone will cost about $215. Additionally, a premium version with the Nokia’s Comes With Music service will also be available for $370.
