Increase Monitor Refresh Rate

Increase Monitor Refresh Rate — Reduce Flickering, Eye Strain and Prevent Headache

If your screen flickers excessively, it may be that you might have set the refresh rate too low. If the refresh rate is too low, the screen will flicker. A flickering monitor can cause eye strain and headaches. However, many people become used to flickering and so do not experience eye strain. If you are experiencing eye strain or headaches, try to increase the refresh rate and observe if there is any positive effect.

How to Increase the Monitor Refresh Rate

The refresh rate is the number of times the electron gun in your monitor redraws the screen. It can be changed using software that comes with your video card.

Here are instructions:

1) Right-click on the Desktop and click on “Properties”.

2) “Display Properties” will open up. Click on the “Settings” tab.

3) In the “Settings” tab, click on the “Advanced” button. “Plug and Play Monitor” will open up.

4) Select “Monitor” and change the refresh rate as needed. I set my refresh rate at 85 Mhz. However, be careful your monitor may not support higher refresh rates.

Caution:

If you set a refresh rate that is too high for your monitor, your monitor will not work. Older monitors may get damaged. Go through the documentation that came with your monitor to ascertain the highest refresh rate it can support.
