IBM is readying an email service that is aimed at wrestling the market share away from Google’s Gmail. In the recent days, Google’s Gmail service has been plagued by frequent outages which have left many end-users frustrated. This new move may prove to be a heavier load on Google which is already taxed by the outage problems.
IBM is currently targeting business users with its LotusLive iNotes. However, nothing stops IBM from extending its services to the average user and tap the market potential fully.
LotusLive iNotes aims to take advantage of the IBM’s experience and reputation in the field of computing. The service will cost $36 per user. This is around 25 per cent less that Google’s enterprise email service offering.
On the minus side, IBM’s service doesn’t offer the same features as Google’s offering. However, it is a cheaper alternative to both Google and Microsoft’s enterprise-level email services.
According to industry experts, IBM is making all attempts to cash on the negative publicity that Gmail generated during the recent outages.
Earlier, Google has expressed its concern over the outages and apologized for all the problems. Google is all set to resolve all the issues and it not likely to give IBM any chance to take over the market any time soon.
