How to Reset BIOS Password
Have you forgotten your BIOS password? If so, here is are instructions to reset the password. However, exercise caution while following the instructions. More specifically, go through the warnings at the bottom of the article.
#1: Turn your computer off and remove it from the power socket.
#2: Using a screwdriver open your CPU case. To reset the BIOS password, you need physical access to your computer’s motherboard.
#3: Locate the CMOS battery. It will be circular and silver metallic in color.
#4: Remove the CMOS battery from its socket and leave it out for a few minutes. The BIOS password is stored in the CMOS memory and when the battery is removed, the memory is discharged which causes the password to be reset. While removing the battery exercise caution. Do not touch other components and do not use excessive force.
#5: Put the battery back in its place and then switch on the computer.
#6: During the booting time, the computer will display an error saying that the CMOS configuration could not be found. You can either use the default configuration or reconfigure it by entering the BIOS menu. Your computer should work fine by using the default configuration.
#7: Your BIOS password has been reset and you can enter a new password. Create a password that you can easily remember or you will forget it in the future again. Remember: The BIOS password only prevents access to the BIOS not to the computer.

# In some rare motherboards, the battery is soldered to the motherboard. If you have such a motherboard, the procedure will be different. These motherboards usually have a jumper somewhere which can be used to reset the BIOS password. Take the help of someone who is proficient with computers or a professional computer repairman.
# Be careful when you try to reset the BIOS password in laptops. Some laptops such as IBM Thinkpad get completely blocked when the BIOS password is reset.
# Don’t just start pulling jumpers on the motherboard. Make sure you know where it was and in what position in case anything goes wrong put it back.
# Don’t touch other components on the motherboard. You body has electric static which can damage the delicate chips and components on the computer motherboard. If you are not comfortable with computers, take the help of a professional computer repairman.
