Statistics indicate that Google’s Android platform is becoming more and more popular in the recent days. ComScore, a firm that tracks cell phone OS popularity reveals that Google’s Android platform grew by 44 percent in the period from February to May of this year.
In February Google’s market share of the smartphone market was about 9 percent. It increased in May to 13.2 percent.
In February Apple’s share was about 25.4 percent. This his reduced by 1 percent to 24.4 percent in May 2010. RIM is still at the top with 41.7 percent although their share is also down from February.
Apple sells only the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3GS models. On the other hand, Android smartphones are sold by many manufacturers, and the increasing number of Android smartphone has probably contributed quite a bit to their increase in market share.
Android is definitely going to dominate the market. However, it is still some way behind. The recent release of the new iPhone 4 may cause a jump in Apple’s share over the next few months.
With new Android smartphones such as the HTC Evo 4G and the Motorola Droid X Android may also see its market share to increase over the next few months.
