Dell Launches Laptop that can be Recharged Wirelessly…
The Dell Latitude Z600, featuring wireless recharging capability is now available for sale. Priced at $1,999, the Z600 is above the typical $1,200 business laptop and may not be seen as a worth-buy laptop by end users.
The Z600 is ultra-thin in make and has a couple of features that are industry firsts. Introduced for the first time in laptops is the wireless charging option. This feature is very similar to the inductive charging technology that is used in the Palm Pre Touchstone charger.
Dell claims that the inductive charging pad is efficient up to 70 %. On the minus side, the pad and optional adaptor module cost an additional $400.
The Z600 comes with an wireless docking capability–another feature introduced for the first time in laptops. This feature will allow the user to work from where ever he/she wants. The dock will run over UWB and will have USB functions. The cost of the optional wireless dock is not yet known.
The Dell Latitude Z600 features the new Latitude-ON technology. This makes use of a second daughterboard processor with a Linux OS that allows the user to work on a network without having to boot into Windows and conserve power.
The Z600 features a 16 inch screen that can support resolutions up to 1600×900. It also comes with a 2 mega pixel camera with advanced features such as autofocus, facial recognition and document scanning with direct PDF conversion. Other features include Bluetooth and WiFi.
The Z600 is powered by Intel Core-2 Duo processors and comes with 4GB RAM. It also comes with 2 solid-state drives totaling 514GB of storage.
Physically, the Latitude Z600 is solidly constructed from a rugged magnesium alloy. It is available in a rich Black Cherry finish with bushed aluminum clamshell interiors. The laptop measures 0.55 inches in thickness and weighs 4.5 pounds.
Can the Dell Latitude Z600 compete with the new netbooks and smartphones that have taken deep roots in the market?
