Creating a System Repair Disk in Windows 7
Create a system repair disk will allow you to boot your computer and perform troubleshooting and repair steps in case something goes wrong with your operating system.
In Windows 7, you create a repair disk from the Backup and Restore Center. To create the disk, open Backup and Restore and click the Create a System Repair Disc link in the left pane. Backup and Restore prompts you to select a recordable CD or DVD drive. Insert a blank disk in the drive and click Create Disc.
To use the system repair disk, insert the disk in your computer’s CD or DVD drive and restart the computer. When the computer prompts you to press a key to boot from CD, press a key. If you are not prompted to boot the system from CD, change the BIOS settings to make your computer boot from the CD/DVD drive.
Once the computer boots from the system repair disk, you will see a System Recovery Options dialog box. In this dialog box you can access several troubleshooting tools including Startup Repair, System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostics, and a Command Prompt which you can use to search for files, run troubleshooting commands, and so on.
When you have finished troubleshooting, click either the Shutdown or Restart button.
