The Windsor knot was started by the Duke of Windsor in the 1930s and it has remained popular to this day because it projects a statement that suggests the wearer is elegant and has confidence. This knot should be worn with a spread collar.

Source: http://www.sxc.hu/photo/1176621

Follow these steps:

Put the tie around your neck. One end should be considerably wider than the other. Make sure the wider end is on the right, and about a foot (30cm) lower than the thinner side on the left.

Cross the wide end over the narrow end, creating somewhat of an uneven “X” with the thinner side on the bottom and the wider side on top.

Bring the tie through the loop. The top “V” from the “X” you created and the collar of your shirt should make a loop. Cross the wide end of your tie under the thin end and through the loop.

Bring the wide end back down to where it was before you looped it through the upper “V”.

Pull the wide end underneath the narrow end and to the right, back through the “V” loop and to the right again so that the wide end is inside out.

Cross the wide end over the thin end again, crossing to the right.

Repeat step three.

Cross the wide end over the thin end again, crossing to the right.

There should be somewhat of a loose knot wrapped around the thinner end now. Take the wider end that you just pulled through the loop and put it through the loose knot.

Carefully and using both hands, tighten the knot until it is resting a small distance below the collar; about an inch (2.5cm).

For a more modern, fashionable and casual look, make the knot a good few inches or centimeters down below the collar. For all formal occasions, however, keep the knot at the traditional distance away from the collar.

If you are in the field of Internet marketing, you already know how important it is to be able to write informative articles. If you can write articles well, you can make a lot of profits from online marketing. People use the Internet for gathering information. If your website doesn’t have good information, it doesn’t serve the purpose. Chances are that no one will visit your website and your sales will be very low.

Source: http://www.sxc.hu/photo/1338212

Writing articles is not very difficult, provided you follow some tips and techniques. In this blog post, I will explain to you four tips that I find very useful in my writing efforts. These work for me and I hope that these will work for you as well and help you improve your productivity.

Choose topics beforehand: If you choose the topics beforehand, you will have a good idea as to how to proceed in developing your articles. This will also improve the flow of content in the article. If you want to write an article on a topic such as “heart disease”, you can create topics such as “history of heart disease”, “how to prevent heart disease”, “tips for preventing cardiovascular diseases”, and so on. If you put in a little effort, you can easily have 15 to 20 different article titles. Once you have finalised these, you can go ahead and search the Internet or other sources for information and combine them to create articles. One of the main advantages of choosing topics beforehand is that you can use the same information in different articles. All you have to do is rephrase the content a little to create informative and unique articles.

Split your articles into manageable sections: Instead of writing one long essay, create sub topics and write accordingly. If you do this, your articles will not only be informative but also will have a nice flow. This also makes writing much easier and faster. You can use subheadings if you wish but these are not necessary.

Rewrite articles often: This is very useful if you have multiple blogs or post to multiple article directories. Writing the first article may be time consuming. But writing the subsequent articles on the same topic will be much easier. All you have to do is rephrase the words and you will have unique content. This is a good strategy for developing back links for your websites. You can also trade articles for back links from Webmasters. Alternatively, you can also sell these articles to other Webmasters.

Use better tools: You can write articles using notepad, but using MS Office is definitely a much better option. You can also use dictation software such as Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Using dictation software, you can read articles 10 times faster. Only how to do is speak and the software will write it for you. For more information on Dragon NaturallySpeaking, visit http://nuance.com/dragon/index.htm.

Using Google is fairly simple. Just enter a phrase in the search box and press Enter and you are good to go. However, if you need more that simple search, Google comes with a number of powerful features. You can use these for better research. These are usually not necessary but learning to use these features will make searching for information easier.

Phrase search (“”)

By putting double quotes around a set of words allows you to search for the exact phrase. Using quotes is usually unnecessary. Phrase search can make you miss good results accidentally. For example, if you search for “Alexander Bell”, you will miss pages referring to Alexander G. Bell.

Search within a specific website (site:)

Using this operator, you can retrieve search results from a specific website. For example, the query iraq site:nytimes.com will return pages about Iraq but only from nytimes.com. Searching for iraq nytimes.com will may give similar results though it may return results from other sites as well. You can also search for results from a specific TLD. For example, iraq site:.gov will return results only from .gov sites.

Terms you want to exclude (-)

If you add the – sign before a keyword, results containing the keyword will be excluded from the search results. The minus sign should appear immediately before the word and should be preceded with a space. E.g. jaguar -cars -football -os. The – sign can be used to exclude more than just words. For example, place a hyphen before the ‘site:’ operator (without a space) to exclude a specific site from your search results.

Fill in the blanks (*)

The *, or wildcard, is a little-known feature that can be very powerful. If you include * within a query, it tells Google to try to treat the star as a placeholder for any unknown term(s) and then find the best matches. For example, the search [ Google * ] will give you results about many of Google’s products (go to next page and next page — we have many products). The query [ Obama voted * on the * bill ] will give you stories about different votes on different bills. Note that the * operator works only on whole words, not parts of words.

Search exactly as is (+)

Google employs synonyms automatically, so that it finds pages that mention, for example, childcare for the query [ child care ] (with a space), or California history for the query [ ca history ]. But sometimes Google helps out a little too much and gives you a synonym when you don’t really want it. By attaching a + immediately before a word (remember, don’t add a space after the +), you are telling Google to match that word precisely as you typed it. Putting double quotes around a single word will do the same thing.

The OR operator

Google’s default behavior is to consider all the words in a search. If you want to specifically allow either one of several words, you can use the OR operator (note that you have to type ‘OR’ in ALL CAPS). For example, [ San Francisco Giants 2004 OR 2005 ] will give you results about either one of these years, whereas [ San Francisco Giants 2004 2005 ] (without the OR) will show pages that include both years on the same page. The symbol | can be substituted for OR. (The AND operator, by the way, is the default, so it is not needed.)

1) Visit http://www.keepvid.com

2) Enter the URL of the YouTube video in the box and click on the Download button.

3) Keepvid will process the video and present you two links for downloading the video: video.flv – Low Quality 320×240 and video.mp4 – High Quality 480×360. Choose mp4 because that is the format iPod supports.

4) Save the file to your computer and rename it to the title. Then save it to your iPod in the videos folder or some other directory where you can find it easily.

5) On iTunes, go to videos, click open and you can view the video.

This is the easiest method because you don’t have to download and install any software on your computer. Also, you will not get any problems like other YouTube video downloaders.

If you have a domain name, you can use Gmail for your email needs without having to forwarding emails. Google Apps Standard Edition (known earlier as “Google Apps for Your Domain”) allows you to host your personal email at Gmail without having to use “Gmail.com” in your email ID.

You will need to register your domain name to use this service. A domain name costs $10 (approx.). Some TLDs may cost more or less. For example, a .info costs $1 (approx.) at GoDaddy.com.

When you sign up for a Google Apps account, you will have to configure your domain name’s email MX record to point to Google’s servers. Once you do this, you can access Gmail behind your domain name. Google Apps Standard Edition comes with Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs and Google Sites.

Google Apps has many advantages. For example, you can create other email IDs at your domain. For example, if I configure adiwebs.com for using Google Apps, I can create email IDs like user1@adiwebs.com, user2@adiwebs.com, etc. Everyone at my domain will be able to work together on documents and share a calender.

Another advantage is that you can switch to other email services very easily. For example, if you don’t like Gmail’s services, all you have to do is change the MX record to another host and you are done. You email ID will remain the same.

If you own a domain, give this a try. You will find it interesting and useful…

The developers at Gmail have recently added the ability to recover gmail password through SMS i.e. text message. This was done because a lot of people often forget their password and this simplifies password recovery process.

To enable this for your account, just sign in, select ‘Change Password Recovery Options,’ enter your cell phone number and click ‘Save.’

The next time you forget your password, enter your username on the password-assistance page, and Google will send you a recovery code through SMS. There is no need to check another email account or even leave the page.

Generally, it is advisable to add as many password recovery options to your Google account as possible i.e. another email address and security question. Always keep them up-to-date or you may find it difficult to recover your password.

Mozilla Firefox is one the most popular free open source browsers. Millions of users prefer to use it over Internet Explorer, which comes by default with Windows. Firefox is much faster and secure (according to many users/developers). It can be further tweaked to make it more faster. Here are instructions to make Firefox load pages faster:

Steps

1. Open Firefox and type “about:config” in the address bar. Press Enter and it will display various entries. Locate the following entries:

network.http.pipelining,

network.http.proxy.pipelining,

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

2. Normally, when you visit a webpage, the browser will make only one request. If you enable pipelining, the browser will make multiple requests at a time. This makes pages to load faster.

Change the entries as follows:

–> Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

–> Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

–> Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to 8. (This means that the browser will make 8 requests at a time. Don’t set it to more than 8 because that is the maximum limit. The default value of this entry is 4.)

3. After you are done with the entries mentioned above, right click anywhere on the browser and select New-> Integer. Name it as “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set the value to “0″. This entry determines the value of time the browser waits before it processes the information it fetches. By setting the value to 0, the browser will process the information instantaneously.

After you are done will the tweaks, restart your browser. If you have a fast Internet connection, you will notice that pages will load very fast. Try visiting some “heavy” sites that have flash, images, etc. and observe the seed improvement.

Here are some additional tips:

# You can make Firefox faster by using Addons such as FasterFox (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1269).

# If you experience problems after you make the tweaks, you can go to Start >> Mozilla Firefox >> Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode) and reset your browser settings.

# For better performance and security, always use the latest version of Mozilla Firefox. Update your browser and other software regularly.
