MSI has unveiled a number of prototype computers on its CES stand. The highlight of the show is a netbook that comes with two touchscreens.
Each of these touchscreen LCDs can be used in a couple of different ways. One touchscreen could display a touchscreen keyboard with the other operating as a traditional laptop display. Alternatively, the netbooks could be turned on their side and used for reading ebooks just like a real world book.
The bigger prototype comes with two 10 inch screens, while the smaller one has two 7 inch displays. These netbooks will run on Windows 7. They will feature Intel Menlow processors and come with 32GB or 64GB solid-state drives for storage.
An MSI spokesperson stated that that these netbooks will be more expensive than traditional netbooks because they feature two touchscreen LCDs. However, there is no guarantee that these may ever hit the market.
MSI is also displaying a more traditional e-book reader at CES. The e-book reader will run on Google Android and include a 10 inch touchscreen. It will be powered by Nvidia’s Arm-based Tegra chips. The e-book reader is more than just a concept, however no pricing details are available. No release dates either!
India’s premier computer manufacturer, HCL Infosystems Ltd has launched its new 3G enabled ME series of Netbooks–the HCL ME 06 and HCL ME 45. These products are aimed at young people and also businessmen.
In addition to the launch of these two products, HCL has also announced the launch of a special festival campaign named “Winter Carnival”. Under this offer, consumers will get a Reebok tracksuit worth Rs. 6,000 free on purchase of any HCL ME laptop. Additionally, on purchase of HCL 38 series ME Laptop, customers will get a brand new Nokia 3500 classic (Nokia 3500c) mobile phone worth Rs. 6289 absolutely free.
Some are the main features of the netbooks are SPLIT ME, where one can share their data without worrying about the size of the file; LOCK ME that prevents data theft from the system; Secure ME, which is an effective tool to lock any application installed on the PC and Encrypt ME, which allows its user to encrypt their data and avoids unauthorized access of the data providing assurance against data theft.
The netbooks will be available in a range of exciting festival colors i.e. red, blue and black, at major retail outlets all across India. The HCL ME 06 Netbook is priced at INR 19,990, while the ME 45 is priced at INR 39,990.
