Videozilla–Convert videos with ease

Videozilla–Convert videos with ease

Videozilla is a software application that allows you to convert videos from one format to another. The software supports a number of formats such as AVI, MPEG, RM, MOV, ASF, FLV, MPEG-4 (can be played on Microsoft Zune) and many others. Videozilla offers a clean and consistent interface which makes using it very simple and straightforward. The learning curve is very small.

Videozilla will appeal to computer users who give a lot of emphasis to convenience. Videozilla does come with an ‘unconventional’ interface–however, it is very convenient to use. When the program is started by clicking on the desktop shortcut, the user is displayed an instruction screen which contains an icon for accessing all the settings of the application.

Videozilla doesn’t come with a main window for accessing video files on your PC. Instead, it works via the Windows Context menu. You can convert videos from one format to another by right-clicking on the video file and selecting the appropriate option. You can change the various options such as frame rates, bit rates and sizes from the Settings menu.

On the plus side, the applications with a simple but nice video player. If you convert videos often, you will find the player very useful as it will give you a good idea of the settings and output quality.

You can also extract a particular section of the video. However, this feature needs to be improved. First and foremost, you can set only one pair of cut points. And then, you have to enter them blindfolded as there is no preview screen to tell you where you are setting the point. Hopefully, this is something the developers will improve in the next version.

Price: Free to try (9-use trial); $29.95 to buy

Zune HD is good, but is it a success?

ImageThere are so many MP3 players in the market that it is quite difficult to select one. The leader in the market is Apple iPod. Microsoft didn’t want to stay behind and launched its own portable digital player called the Zune in 2006.

Microsoft’s Zune has come cool features but it didn’t succeed in raking in sales. Statistics show that Zune accounted for only 2% of portable player sales in the first 6 months of 2009. On the other hand, Apple’s iPod accounts for 73%.

Microsoft has now launched the Zune HD, an upgraded and feature-rich version of the Zune. The Zune HD comes with many improvements. It comes with a touchscreen, can play music, videos and display images and connect to the Internet using WiFi.

The Zune HD is available in two variants: a 16GB version for $220 and a 32GB version for $290.

It features a high-definition radio can play high-definition video in 720p resolution. It can also be connected to HDTVs using a docking station. The Zune HD’s screen uses OLED technology to give crystal clear display. Additionally, the graphics are powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra HD GPU.

On the whole, the Zune HD is very easy to use and feature-rich. However, the software that has to be installed on a computer to connect to the Zune HD is a bit slow even on mid-range PCs.

In order to download music into the Zune HD, one has to sign for its $15/month subscription service. This allows unlimited downloads. Unlike Apple’s iTunes store which is per download, the Zune Pass is per month. Users can download unlimited number of songs, however they don’t own them. The songs expire if the subscription is cancelled.

To conclude, the Zune HD is definitely an improvement over the Zune. It works well and looks good. However, the software and online services that come with the Zune HD definitely lag behind and need improvements. Apple definitely is way ahead in this regard and Microsoft needs to improve these if it wants Zune HD to offer stiff competition to the iPod.

Microsoft Zune HD — The Best Media Player

ImageMicrosoft has finally released Zune HD, its answer to Apple’s iPod. And it turns out that Zune HD is seriously good hardware. It is definitely one of the best media players that money can buy.

Though initially many in the industry saw the Zune HD as a half-baked attempt from Microsoft to somehow stay alive in the market, it goes beyond saying that Microsoft has succeeded this time and has brought forward the winning mix of features.

Earlier, Microsoft’s attempts to counter Apple were always half-baked. Microsoft released Zune with a track-pad after Apple had released its feature-rich touch-screen iTouch. In addition, the Zune also came with no application ability and limited Internet connectivity. However, the Zune HD is different. It is an impressive mix of features and comes with some very new features not found anywhere else. The player is well designed–It is only 0.35 inches thick and is very light.

The Zune HD features a 3.3 inch organic light emitting diode (OLED) widescreen display. Images and videos on the screen look as if real. The widescreen is just the tip of the iceberg. The real features of the Zune HD are all inside. Microsoft has managed to pack a lot of cool features into the Zune HD. The Zune HD now surpasses all of its competitors in terms of features. It easily beats even the latest iPod from Apple.

The Zune HD comes with the Tegra APX 2600 chip which provides high graphics performance without compromising battery life. Additionally, it features a 65-nanometer CPU featuring 8 separate cores which include a standalone 3D GPU, a 600 MHz ARM11 component, a synthesizable processor and HD encoders/decoders.

Microsoft has added HD video to the Zune HD. This is something that Apple should have done long long ago. With the Zune HD, you can watch videos from the Zune directly on your television with great detail.

When it comes to music downloads, Microsoft has again ensured that its service is worth something to its users. Unlike iTunes, where users have to purchase each track individually, Zune HD users can join “Zune Social” and get a Zune pass. This allows unlimited song downloads for just $15 per month. For $15 users can fill their Zune with unlimited songs of their choice. Compare this to iTunes where each track costs $0.99. This is definitely going to be a selling point for Microsoft.

The Zune HD is priced at $219.99. For additional information or to purchase Zune HD, visit www.zune.net.
