So, you have a collection of vacation pictures and videos and you want to send them to your friends. How to do that?

One way (this is old-style!) is to burn them into a CD or DVD and send them to your friends via snail mail. This disadvantages: it takes time. However, there are better ways to share files than this. All you need is an Internet connection, preferably a broadband Internet connection.

All you have to do is share the link with your friends and they can download it from wherever they are.

One disadvantage of using file sharing websites is that your data may be accessed by other people as well. RapidShare and MegaUpload links are indexed by several websites and may be accessible to other people. For this reason, think twice before uploading personal or sensitive information.

There are also several paid services in this field. For instance, YouSentIt offers hosting up to 2 GB for $9.99/month. The advantages with paid services is that they offer better services and also dedicated customer support. If something goes wrong, you can contact a customer rep and sort things out.

The best way to share photos is to use a image hosting/sharing service such as Flickr. Google also offers a similar service called Picasa. Alternatively, you can also upload your photos to your Orkut account and share them with friends who have Orkut accounts.
