Samsung Launches S5620 Monte in India

Samsung has launched its latest touchscreen phone, the S5620 Monte in India. The handset is priced at Rs. 8,850.

The Samsung Monte is a mid-range touchscreen phone that comes with a 3-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen capable of displaying 256K colors at 240 x 400 pixels. It runs on Samsung’s proprietary operating system over the TouchWiz 2.0 interface. The 3G Ready handset comes equipped with a number of features such as a 3.2 MP camera, Wi-Fi and FM radio.

The Monte supports Bluetooth 2.1 and A-GPS. The phone is priced similarly to the existing Corby range, and thus can be a good alternative handset to those who need a phone that performs like the Corby – but doesn’t share the brand name. The Monte also comes with a Wi-Fi chip, something that we don’t commonly find in phones in the price range.

ImageAs for the other features of the Monte, it comes with 200 MB of internal memory, which is quite large especially for a phone in its price range. Storage can be expanded using microSD cards. The phone is multimedia ready and packs in a very capable MP3 and video player – and not to mention, a 3.5mm audio jack.

The Monte also comes installed with Google Maps. The phone is effectively priced at Rs. 8,850, which seems to be a very good price for the features that the device provides. The handset will shortly be available at all major mobile handset retailers across the country.

Virus in Vodafone handset!

Virus in Vodafone handset!

Trend Micro has announced that its security researchers have discovered a malware on Vodafone mobile phone handset. The malware program comes pre-installed on the handset and infects the computer when connected to it.

In a statement, Trend Micro said that Vodafone has been taking the heat for packing malware straight out of the box on their HTC Magic Android smartphones. Plugging the phone in via the USB port into any PC quickly led to an infection by WORM_SILLY.QT, the statement added.

Trend Micro threat researcher, Ryan Flores, believes that most likely a computer in Vodafone’s production line has been infected by WORM_SILLY.QT. And, because of the worm’s capability to propagate through removable drives, somehow SD cards in a certain batch of smartphones were infected.

The recipient of one of the malware-laden phones was, fortunately, an employee of the antivirus firm Panda Security.

Vodafone has clarified that the infected phone problem is an isolated case. Not many phones have been infected and so there is no reason to panic or stop using Vodafone services.
