There are new rumors on the Internet speculating that Apple is all set to release new MacBooks within the next few weeks. Earlier, there had been rumors that Apple is going to release a new version of the iMac which incorporates a Blu-ray drive. There are speculations that the new MacBooks will be priced under $1000 which will make them affordable to many more new customers, thus taking the Apple-based computing to a new level.
These MacBooks are speculated to be launched side-by-side with the more versatile iMacs in the coming weeks. If they are offered at the pricing the rumors claim, they will be definitely the cheapest offerings from Apple in the history of the Mac line of computers. According to some inside sources, models awaiting certification were spotted in white-colored polycarbonate which is consistent with the $999 model currently available.
Some industry experts believe that a low-cost polycarbonate MacBook would eventually lead the way to Apple’s touchscreen tablet early next year. However, the credibility of this speculation cannot be established with any level of certainty.
Apple has not made any announcements about its upcoming products. There is nothing new in this–Apple has always been a secretive company. However, Apple has always been reluctant to tap the sub-$1000 market. It has left this high-volume yet low-profit market segment for other companies to slice up. However, there is a possibility that Apple might have made a change of mind and planned to venture into this market segment and see what turns out.
Should Apple enter this market? Personally, I think definitely yes! If Apple starts making cheaper computers, it will gain a bigger market share. It is time for Apple to leave the high horse it is riding and come home.
