Apple Drops 40GB Apple TV and Discounts 160GB Model to $229

Computer giant Apple has discontinued the 40 GB Apple TV. At the same time, it has also cut the price of the 160 Gb version down to $229. Earlier, the 40 GB Apple TV cost $229 while the 160 GB version cost $329.

With the demise of the 40 GB model, Apple is left with only the 160 GB model priced at $229. These changes were already anticipated by analysts based on slipping ship dates for the 40 GB model.

Ever since Apple launched Apple TV, the hardware has remained the same with the exception of hard drive sizes. Apple has always branded the AppleTV as a hobby project and is still in the initial stages of expanding its market reach.

In the meantime, a new rumor alleges to have found new evidences to support claims that Apple’s new iTunes LP bundles were formatted specifically for use with AppleTV. This indicates that we may see a major AppleTV software update sometime in the near future.
