Reportedly, Apple is developing an in-house radio application for the iPhone. The app will deliver functionality similar to the FM radio found in the iPod Nano. It is likely to come with a live pause functionality as well. Apple is also trying to integrate the Mobile iTunes Store purchases into the app.
Apple is also currently working on adding tagging capability. This feature will allow users to view and download tracks from the iTunes Website. Currently, users can purchase radio-based apps such as ESPN Radio and Pocket Tunes Radio from the App Store. These apps allow users to listen to free stations using GPS technology.
Earlier in August, Sirius XM–a leading satellite radio company announced that it would shortly be released the SkyDock. This allows users to connect to satellite radio using the iPhone or iPod touch. The SkyDock acts as a dock by plugging into the base of the iPhone/iPod Touch linking it to Sirius XM’s satellite radio and also providing power.
